Freshen Up

The pine and white look for interiors seems to be very common nowadays. I like how here though, just a tiny bit of really intense bright pink has been added in. It brings this current interior trend into its own and gives it a bit more personality and life.

Ashtanga Yoga Shala

Business Card Front & Back (without grey border obviously!!! It's just the PDF display background)

Front of wrap around labels for Yoga DVD and Yoga Hemp Exercise Top

Back of wrap around labels with information on the company (without grey border!)

I'm finally making progress with my use of colour! I just completed an assignment today which I was quite proud of my colour choice for. It's just a nice simple folio assignment to balance out the abundance of very layered, colourful and bold pieces I have in my folio now... something I felt I needed to break away from a bit. So what better to design something simple and rich and lovely for than a yoga studio... I obviously wasn't actually commissioned to do this... it's just my interpretation of the brand. I chose to use nice warm, earthy, balanced and inviting colours, without being exclusive to one gender of course. Yoga isn't just for males or females, it's for everyone. I think soft, warm colours invoke this feeling nicely. Not too bright, not too dull, not too cool. And a big change from my usual 'go crazy with all the colours of the rainbow' approach!!!

Siwe Hero Images

Above are the two hero images I am using for my Colour in Commercial Environment assignment, for which I'm creating the identity and collateral for Siwe, a modern African restaurant. The two hero images play on the duality of the use of dark and light in African culture. I wanted to come up with something that was original and unexpected, instead of the usual bright colours and bold prints approach that many before have taken when going down the African road for inspiration. I like these images because they are distinctly African, but at the same time almost alien, delicate and painting-like.

Rodarte - NYFW SS10

Rodarte's SS10 show showcased an apocalyptic vision of flames, body decoration, scarification and destruction. The avant garde construction of the garments and the colour palette used worked together critically to create this well-realised collection.

ABOVE: Here you can see the use of red as an integral colour in the collection. When mixed and morphed with black, it takes on quite a violent and intense feeling. I think this is a really effective example only two colours being used together. It explores vivid patches of bright red as well as large dark shades of red and the grounding element of black.

ABOVE: This is an extension of the red outfit above, as now it is adding in white. The small flecks of white that are glimpsed in the skirt give it a slightly lighter, more tribal feeling. This to me again is another good example of using only two or three colours together. They work in the right proportions together to create Rodarte's apocalypse concept.

ABOVE: A completely earthy feeling is given off by this outfit. No loud patches of colour, just a simple progression from light brown tints to dark brown patterns and black. The patterned parts do well to break up the blocks of colour.

ABOVE: This is an interesting outfit. It is underpinned by the same natural look of the above outfit, but has an unexpected flash of fluro yellow/green in it. The lurid quality of the colour cuts through the earthiness and puts it into a level where it is almost space age (but still inextricably linked to nature somehow?!)
