Above are the two hero images I am using for my Colour in Commercial Environment assignment, for which I'm creating the identity and collateral for Siwe, a modern African restaurant. The two hero images play on the duality of the use of dark and light in African culture. I wanted to come up with something that was original and unexpected, instead of the usual bright colours and bold prints approach that many before have taken when going down the African road for inspiration. I like these images because they are distinctly African, but at the same time almost alien, delicate and painting-like.
